Last week was a truly special time at Alban City Dental as we had the privilege of hosting five work experience students from Samuel Ryder Academy, St Albans High School for Girls, Beaumont School and a student on a gap year. It was a week filled with learning and exploration as these young women delved into the world of dentistry and healthcare. It was our pleasure to give them insights and direction to help them as the next generation of dentists and doctors.
From the moment they stepped through our doors, our work experience students were eager to absorb as much knowledge and experience as possible from our medically and dentally qualified Clinical Director Dr Prakash Promod, Consultant Orthodontist Sarah Lee, General Dentist Harshil Patel, Dental Nurses Simona and Ana and Receptionists Sue and Margaret.
During the week, they had the opportunity to observe consultations, dental extractions, implants, guided surgery and orthodontic treatment. They also spoke with patients, gaining a better understanding of patient experience and what people look for when choosing a dental practice. Through these firsthand experiences, they gained a deeper understanding of the intricacies of dental procedures and the importance of team work, patient care and communication.
In addition to clinical exposure, our students had the chance to explore alternative career paths within the healthcare industry. They engaged in insightful conversations with two GPs; broadened their horizons beyond traditional healthcare roles by meeting with a Translational Molecular Biologist who shared about her experience in the pharmaceutical industry; and had a session with a Communications Director to learn about the vital role of communication in building trust and rapport with patients.
At Alban City Dental, we are committed to nurturing and inspiring the next generation of dental and medical professionals. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our work experience students for their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the week. We wish them all the success in their future pursuits and hope to see them shine brightly as they embark on their careers in dentistry and beyond. We would also like to thank our patients for allowing our work experience students to observe and for providing such considered and thoughtful answers to their questions.
